March 17, 2014 11 Mile Ice Fishing report: Big Pike!

Spring ice marks that time of year when the big pike move shallow to spawn.  These fish aren’t always easy to tempt, but they can be caught and the potential for a fish over 18 pounds is very good!  Dead bait such as a sucker, smelt, or shiner will all work.  The fresher the better. The trout fishing has been fair with lots of stockers being caught, but the better quality fish are harder to come by.  Small tube jigs, trout magnets, kastmasters, and paddle bugs have been producing.

December 18, 2013 11 Mile Ice Fishing report: Tough Bite!

Eleven Mile is 99% covered with 10-12″ of ice.  Fishing has been tough over the last week, with concentrations of fish being hard to find.  Be sure to cover water in search of high fish traffic areas if your spot isn’t producing.  The water clarity is sub-par with the west end being the worst.  Site fishing is key on the days when the fish are being fickle about taking the bait.  If you have multiple fish come in and deny your bait with it sitting still, try moving it ever so slightly.  There are bite windows with heavy fish movement, but the trick is running into these windows!
