Antero Ice Fishing Report

Antero Ice Fishing Report: Antero reservoir in South Park, Colorado has had ice for about two weeks now.  Ice is running 5-8″, but there are some thin spots and nasty pressure ridges so as always, USE CAUTION!!! Fishing has been pretty darn good most days, but it’s not always easy! We have seen very different fish behavior day to day. The key is to stay mobile and fish with an open mind. Deeper water has been the most consistent for fish traffic, but we have seen the fish do a variety of things from hug the bottom to cruise right under the ice. Bait/lure preference seems to vary daily as well. One thing that has been consistent is bite windows all throughout the day. We have consistently seen windows of heavy fish activity and periods on minimal to no fish activity all throughout the day. If your hole goes dead, give it a little time or move to a new hole and usually it will result in some improvement. Oranges, pinks, reds, and whites have been consistently producing but figuring out bait size and how actively to work the bait is a daily puzzle. Put this puzzle together and 8-15 fish per person days with a few toads is the standard fair! REMEMBER, the limit is two fish any size, but there is an abundance of 18-20″ (best eaters) fish and it’s not a horrible idea to release the bigger fish! Be safe and good luck!
