Blue Mesa Ice Fishing Report: No new ice, but fishing is good!

Blue Mesa Ice Fishing Report:
The ice is in no hurry to lock the lake in, but we still have good ice from the Gunnison River inlet to about 400 yards west of the hwy 149 bridge. Ice is running 4-8″ with a few inches of snow on top. Fishing has been good for rainbow trout and brown trout with the occasional lake trout and kokaknee salmon showing up! I haven’t seen any jumbo perch show up yet, but I’m sure there are some around as a lot of brush is flooded around the lake city bridge! Fish have been showing up from 8-25′ deep. We have seen some big schools of rainbow trout come through with 5-10 fish making up the school and several nice sized fish seem to be in each school! We are getting some cold nights now so expect new ice to form soon as long as the wind stays away! As always, be safe!
