Ice and Fishing Report 12-16-24

Blue Mesa Ice Report 12/16/24
The ice on Blue Mesa is staring to stretch into the Bay of Chickens. This ice is thin. As you head east to Elk Creek we have 3-4 inches of ice, 7 at Dry Creek and this stretches into the west end of Iola. Some of the shore lines are thicker. At the bottom of Iola boat ramp there is a slab that is only 3 inches and this stretches east a little bit. The thickest ice is near the Hwy 149 bridge it is 14-16 inches. However, west of the bridge ice dams are pushing water onto the top of ice so be cautious of this area.

All this to say, there is a lot of variation in ice thickness and it changes everyday. Be diligent in checking your ice as you go and be safe out there.

Fishing Report 12-16-24
We are off to a great start with the 2024-2025 ice fishing season early cold in colorado has got us off to a great start. We have been on the ice since just before Thanksgiving! We have good ice on all the lakes and Reservoirs we guide on.
Blue Mesa has been producing good numbers of trout and perch as well as some good early season lake trout action. Antero and 11 mile have both been producing some high numbers of fish each day with a handful over that 20 inch mark. 11 mile has also been producing some pike action for the patient angler.  The trout in Tarryall average a bit smaller than 11 mile and Antero but it has been producing great action and some very nice size fish as well. The trout bite on Taylor and San Cristobal has been great as well!
