Ice Report 1/17/26

1/17/26

We’ve been on the ice now for about 6 weeks and had a lot of great trips out!  The ice is growing and changing daily so always be sure to check ice for yourself with a spud bar, carry safety gear, and watch for changing pressure ridges.  For more frequent updates about changing conditions and pictures follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Blue Mesa: Most of the Iola Basin is 7-10 inches with a few thinner areas that froze last. The small new slab heading into the canyon toward Dry Creek is about 5 inches. Dry Creek has some thin floating ice and Elk Creek has a very small patch of 7 inch ice at the bottom of the boat ramp, with new thin ice reaching to the east shore. Heavy wind today was beating up that thin new ice pretty good. Some very large pressure ridges are winding around the Iola Basin that should be avoided if possible, and it’s always best to cross these near shore.

Antero: Some pressure ridges popping and opening up and heavy wind has opened up some shoreline. The bulk of the lake is 8 inches thick. As always check your ice, use a spud bar and stay safe out there!

11 Mile: A lot of the lake is in the 3-7 inch range with 3-4 inches of snow on most of it, which is insulating it from the warm days. However, there are some thin spots as well as some pressure ridges and cracks pouring some water on top of the ice and making some slushy areas.

Tarryall: This lake has had ice the longest and is 8-12 inches consistently, but has a large pressure ridge to be cautious of and go around.
