February 27, 2013  Antero Fishing Report:  Steady fishing

The fishing at Antero has been slower than normal this year.  From what I have heard, oxygen levels are still good, but the fish movement and fishing action has been tough to fair.  Taryall, Eleven Mile, and Blue Mesa have had far better action!

January 30, 2013  Antero Fishing Report:  Steady fishing

Antero has been consistently fishing fair to good.  The number of fish appears to be down this year, but the pressure hasn’t been as bad with a lot of crowds going to 11 Mile.  Per usual, fishing along weed edges, rock outcroppings and along the dam have been producing fish with 1-2″ tube jigs in pink, orange, green, and white.  Meal worms, wax worms and krill (similar to a shrimp) have been a great little bonus to tip your bait with and tempt rainbowscutbows, and brown trout!

December 20, 2012  Antero Fishing Report:  Safe ice is here and fishing is fair to good!

Antero is now close to 100% capped with 4-7 inches of ice.  Antero has a lot of springs and pressure ridges, so always be cautious when venturing onto new ice!   Fishing has been fair to good with the overall quality of fish being a lot better than last year, but the number of fish hasn’t been quite as good.  Fish are hitting a variety of tube jigs, ratsos, pk spoons, kastmasters, Dynamic Hd ice, and roe sacks.

Antero safe ice is here for 2013!

November 28, 2012  Antero Fishing Report:  Warm temps reverse ice progress!!!

Warm temperatures and some windy days have eaten up a lot of Antero’s ice!  The lake is now about 60% ice free with the only safe ice residing in the little cove at the south boat ramp.  You can find 3-5″ here with open water near by.  The fishing is slow to fair with not a lot of fish moving through this area.  The 7 day forcast doesn’t look too promising with day time temps getting into the 40’s so safe ice might not be back until 10-14 days from now!  Hopefully, we will start to see ice making weather very soon!

2012 Antero First Ice...and open water!

November 17, 2012  Antero Fishing Report:  First Antero ice of the season!

We heard a report of some safe early ice and couldn’t resist the urge to find out for ourselves!  The south boat ramp has a small section of 5-6″ ice and the rest of the lake had 2-3.5″ of ice.  Conditions are still very risky so don’t put yourself in a precarious situation!  Warm weather and wind can quickly turn safe ice into unsafe ice!  With that said, we did find enough safe ice to wet a line and catch our first several fish of the 2012/2013 Colorado ice fishing season!  We caught several nice rainbows, cutbows, and some kokanee salmon!
