Blue Mesa Ice Growing into the New Year
Blue Mesa Ice Report 1/6/24
Most of the newer ice that stretches from just west of the Lake City bridge to Elk Creek is 5-7 inches!! Some of the ice in the coves is a bit thicker and there was one spot in Southeast Iola that froze several days later that is a bit thinner. There are some pressure ridges starting to pop as usual, use caution. There have been people hauling large rocks out on the ice near the the Lake City bridge so be careful of this as we get more snow, especially if you’re riding a machine.
As always, follow safety precautions (spud bar, ice picks, cleats, floatation device, rope). And don’t just assume ice is safe if you see someone out there, always check it yourself.
Good luck out there!
