Blue Mesa Ice is Growing Fast Now 12-29-23

❄️ Blue Mesa Res.

The wind let up and the temps dropped the last few nights and we have gained a lot of ice. We have new ice stretching all the way to Elk Creek.  From the Hwy 149 bridge to Elk Creek is over 95% ice and should all lock up tonight. Most of this ice is 1-1.5 inches thick, a few spots pushing 3 inches. The oldest ice in the inlet is 15 inches and thins down to 5 inches where it meets up with this new ice. There has been a lot of fishing pressure in a small area so finding those unprepared fish is key.  Fishing has been pretty solid most days with some good size trout and the occasional perch mixed in.

As always, be cautious on early ice, check thickness yourself, make sure to have spikes, spud bar, rope, and a throwable flotation devise. Check your own ice don’t just go because you see somebody out there.
