Antero Ice Fishing Report: Antero ice is looking nice!
Antero Ice Fishing Report: Antero ice is looking nice!
Antero reservoir is mostly ice-covered, but there are still a few spots to keep an eye on. As of November 30th, there was still a large dark spot in the snow-covered ice south and west of the North Shore boat ramp. It appeared to be open water, but some have said that it is open water on top of ice. I have not hiked over to it to investigate but be advised that it’s an area to be cautious of. The same goes for a few of the shorelines on the North side. On December 3, the south side seemed to have a consistent 5-6″ of ice, but there were a few shorelines over shallow water that were soft. Bottom line, always have your guard up!
Fishing has been good most days, especially during the first few hours of the morning! The key is to figure out the color of the day. Hot pinks, orange and yellow combos, and natural colors have been producing best for us. Early in the day, the fish are looking up so you can suspend your bait 3-5′ below the ice. Later in the day they tend to be more lazy and closer to the bottom can be better. Be sure to tip your presentation with a meal worm, wax worm, or piece of shrimp.
